The Popular Show Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
