Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A revitalized Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.
It is his first trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.
Success also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was over.
However the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.
The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to go ahead.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.
Moutet rescued 4 initial chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
