Man pleads guilty to sex offences against young males at summer camp
A person who spiked candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys aged between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and one adult fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The legal representative added: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his family member contacted the authorities about his concerns.
She said the defendant continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"The police had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.
The prosecutor stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member called the authorities again.
She said the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
